Event Formats
Event structure
Each tournament uses either a Swiss Rounds structure, or a combination of Swiss Rounds and Single Elimination tournament.
Swiss-Round Tournament
What are Swiss Rounds?
The Swiss rounds tournament structure for 2025-26 Pokémon Asia Championship Series is a non-elimination format where:
・All players play a set number of rounds (e.g., 3-10 rounds), regardless of their win/loss record. However, depending on the tournament rules, players may be dropped from the tournament automatically after losing a set number of times.
・In each round, players are paired against others with similar records (e.g., 2 wins / 1 loss).
How Swiss Pairings Work:
1. Round 1: Random pairings.
2. Round 2+: Players with the same or similar scores are matched.
・Rounds continue until the Top Cut rankings are determined.
Determining the winner:
The player with the best record after all Swiss rounds is the winner (OR top players may advance to a single-elimination Top Cut tournament).
Single Elimination Tournament
The single-elimination format is a tournament system where, if a contestant loses a match, they are immediately eliminated from the tournament. This continues until a winner is determined.
BO3(Best of 3)
BO3 stands for Best of 3, meaning a round is won when a player wins two games.
